Birnam Designs

Birnam Designs is led by designer/developer David Woods. Our primary focus is on creating high quality websites that are attractive, easy to use, and easy for our clients to update themselves without feeling tied to us. Birnam Designs was incorporated in 2002; David has been building websites since 1998. We work directly with clients of all sizes, and specialize in assisting other agencies.

Most of our clients come to us through referrals, and we work with many of them again and again. Our clients are based all over the world, although the majority of our clients are within the United States. Within the US we work mostly in the Midwest and East Coast regions, but are happy to work with anyone, anywhere.

A website is tricky because of the way design and development overlap. Good websites needs strong design and development.

Most web design companies have separate designers and developers, which means more people on the production chain, which means projects cost more and take longer to do. And the overall quality will suffer if the designer doesn't fully understand how the developer will be using the design, or the developer doesn't fully understand how the design was meant to be used. It's a classic case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.

Wait, what does our being geeks have to do with anything? Well, put it this way: the internet is evolving at an incredible rate and your web design company should keep up. Too many designers and developers are locked into habit. A comfortable style. The old way of doing things. You could easily end up with a website that looks outdated and uses obsolete technology from the first day it goes online.

We love learning about new technology, techniques, styles, trends, tools, even new programming languages, and that keeps us ahead of the pack. A lot of our time each week is spent doing independent research, learning new tricks, and testing new tools. What this means for you is that we know what's best for your website, the best way to do it, and the best tools for us to use to get it done as fast as possible.

We also develop a lot of original techniques, styles, and even tools. We contribute regularly to our field by posting tips, techniques, scripts, plugins, reviews, and more on our Developer's Blog . We are also active participants in peer communities like SitePoint.
